Born and raised in Lubbock, Texas, Mexican-American drummer and composer Evan Luna has built a career rooted in collaboration and cultural connection. Drawing from his Mexican heritage and a deep foundation in jazz and Latin music, Luna's playing reflects a blend of tradition and innovation that defines his artistic voice.
After earning his degree in Jazz Studies, Luna moved to Spain to pursue a Master's in Contemporary Performance (Production Concentration) at Berklee College of Music in Valencia. There, he was focused on exploring Latin American genres through research, performance, and composition, culminating in original works that fuse folkloric rhythms with modern jazz.
Now based in Austin, Texas, Luna is an active performer, composer and collaborator in the city's vibrant Latin and jazz scenes. He has become a versitile presence in both live and studio settings, performing with diverse artists and contributing to projects that celebrate his contemporary sound.
Building on his master's thesis, Luna is currently developing his debut album, a body of work that expands on his research and compositions from Berklee. The album explores themes of identity, community, and freedom, combining the rhythmic languages of Latin America with the improvisational freedom of jazz.
